How does nightlife etiquette in Vietnam differ from Japan?
The big differences are tipping and payment. At VIP massage, it's the rule to give the therapist a cash tip separately from the ticket you pay at reception. Local places often don't accept credit cards, and even when they do, a 3–5% surcharge may be added. Vietnamese dong has lots of zeros, so get into the habit of pointing at and checking the digits on each note. Ice at street stalls may be made from tap water, so if you're worried, it's safer to order "no ice".
