Xin chào! This is the Hapinam Editorial Team, bringing you nightlife and entertainment news from Vietnam.
I've lived in Vietnam as an expat for a long time and am one of the team members who "patrols" the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City at night (?).
On a business trip or holiday in Vietnam, you finish dinner with colleagues or the first round of drinks, look at your watch, and it's 1 or 2 a.m.
"I haven't had nearly enough to drink!" "I'm not done yet, but is anything still open at this hour?"
I often see men standing on the streets of Linh Lang in Hanoi or Le Thanh Ton in Ho Chi Minh City, phone in hand, wondering exactly that.
In fact, Vietnamese nights end early: regular restaurants and non-adult massage places close around 22:00–23:00. However, if you know how to have fun and which areas to go to, you can have a great time even at 2 or 3 a.m. – that's the charm of Vietnam.
This time, for those who want information right now, the Hapinam Editorial Team has put together a list of spots in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City that stay open after 2 a.m., by area, from an expat's point of view!
Late nights in Vietnam: typical closing times by type of venue

First, the basics: in Vietnam, once midnight passes, the city's lights go out almost all at once. But if you focus on certain areas and types of venue, there are plenty of places open until morning.
Below are the types of venue you can use for one more round late at night, with rough opening hours.
| Type | Typical hours | How to enjoy it / features |
| Late-night bars and snack bars | 20:00 to 2:00 (some until 3:00) | When you want a quiet drink, or a fun drink with local girls. Plenty in the Japanese quarter. |
| Men's VIP massage | 10:00 to 3:00 (some until 4:00) | When you want to sweat it out in a sauna after a night of drinking and enjoy ultimate relaxation in a private room. |
| Local clubs and lounges | 22:00 to 4:00 | When you want to party with drinks and music and mingle with energetic young Vietnamese. |
Now let's look at specific areas and spots by city!

Hanoi, the capital and political center, tends to close earlier than Ho Chi Minh City (the police are stricter). But there are oases where you can party late, especially around the Japanese quarter.
1. Bars and girls' bars in the Linh Lang area
Around Linh Lang Street and Kim Ma Street, Hanoi's biggest Japanese quarter. Japanese-run bars, karaoke (KTV) and girls' bars open until around 1–2 a.m. are packed together here.
- Expat's take: Ideal when you want just one more drink. But many places shut their shutters all at once after 2 a.m., so the golden rule is to ask "Until what time?" before going in.
2. VIP massage around Tran Duy Hung
In western Hanoi, there's a cluster of large VIP massage venues for men. Many are open until around 3 a.m., making them an expat favorite as a way to finish the night: soothing a tired body with a sauna and massage after drinks.
- Expat's take: Late at night there may be fewer therapists, so it's safest to book by phone in advance (or ask your hotel's front desk).
3. Clubs and lounges in the Old Quarter (near Ta Hien Street)
The Old Quarter, where backpackers and young people gather. The street bia hoi stalls are packed up around midnight on police orders, but the indoor clubs and DJ lounges further in keep the music blasting until around 3 a.m.

Ho Chi Minh City, the commercial capital, is a city that never sleeps. Far more places stay open late than in Hanoi, so you'll never run out of options.
1. Hẻm (back-alley) bars in Le Thanh Ton
In the back alleys (hẻm) of Le Thanh Ton, Ho Chi Minh City's Japanese quarter, countless girls' bars and snack bars are packed together. Many are open until 2–3 a.m., so even if your first round runs late, you can easily pop in.
- Expat's take: Late at night, the girls calling customers in get even more energetic (lol). Most places charge fairly, but buying them too many drinks will send your bill soaring, so be careful.
2. Large VIP massage venues around District 1 and in District 5
In central District 1 and around District 5, home to Chinatown, there are many large VIP massage venues with luxurious saunas and bathtubs.Places open until 3–4 a.m. are not unusual.
- Expat's take: When the long Ho Chi Minh City night has worn you out, the ultimate luxury is to relax here for about an hour and a half before heading back to your hotel.
3. The club street on Bui Vien
Ho Chi Minh City's ultimate all-night strip. The whole street becomes one giant club, packed until morning with people from all over the world enjoying booming music, fire dancing and shisha (hookah).
- Expat's take: If you want chaotic energy, this is the only choice! But pickpockets and overcharging are also very common, so keep a close eye on your phone and wallet.
Hapinam's tips: getting around late at night and staying safe

After a fun night out, the moment you must not let your guard down is the trip home. Here are three things the Hapinam Editorial Team wants you to stick to.
1. Never take a taxi hailed on the street!
After 2 a.m., more taxis wait for customers on the street, but there's a very high chance they're rip-off taxis with rigged meters. Always use the ride-hailing app Grab to get around. You can get a car right away even late at night, and the fare is fixed in advance, so you can relax.
2. Ignore late-night massage touts on the street
Walking down the street drunk, a woman on a motorbike may call out "Massage? Spa?". If you follow her, there have been many cases of people being taken to a dark room and having their wallet emptied (theft and extortion). Never follow touts who don't have a proper shop.
3. Don't overdrink, and look after your valuables
In clubs and bars late at night, never get carried away and flash your cash, or leave your phone lying on the table. Vietnamese dong has so many zeros that, when drunk, people often hand over a high-value note by mistake when paying. Carry only the cash you need.
Summary: late-night Vietnam is amazing! But the night isn't over until you're home

So, what did you think?
This time, for those who want to go for one more round right now, we've put together spots in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City that stay open after 2 a.m.
Have a quiet drink in the Japanese quarter late at night, enjoy ultimate relaxation at a VIP massage, or dance until morning on Bui Vien – Vietnam's nights go as far as your stamina and curiosity will take you.
But remember: the night out isn't over until you're home. Get around safely with Grab, look after your valuables, and make it a great night that ends with a smile!
The Hapinam Editorial Team hopes you all have a wonderful time somewhere in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City tonight!
